Idiots

I am, all appearances to the contrary, usually an optimistic guy. But sometimes, things just get to me. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Well, this is old news actually. This has generated a lot of discussion/controversary here for a while.

While I am not supporter of the current government initiative, I found the article really badly written - mostly based on rhetorics and some unfounded premises. I wouldn't get into its point by point criticism - its not worth.

For your peace of mind here are some pros -

1. There are too many MBA schools holding their individual distinctive tests in India. The same holds good for engineering colleges - though not as many, but one still needs to prepare for IITs, State level entrance (and 12th board examn ofcourse). For an aspiring candidate this is expensive (the MBA entrances cost a good deal of money) and an extra burden. A unified test in the lines of SAT and GMAT is _MUCH_ better than the current model.

2.Presumably with government control will come some government subsidy in these colleges. The IIMs and the "government" engineering colleges have become very expensive in recent days. You and I would not have been able to pay the college fees that our college ask now. The "cheap" education loans are secured loans. Our father did not have that kind of asset to qualify for such loans - especially for both of us! Our situation was not out of the ordinary - we were not poor people as such.

Also the older IIMs already generate enough funds of their own and probably will be able to stay out of government control - since they don't NEED the money and cash flow positive. So why are they so expensive ?

And at last - Whats so "sacred" about the IIT/IIMs ? You are either lot more naive than I thought or over dramatic!

sacred, thoughts such as those are a luxury, or for the really weak. you have come too far for such frivolousness.
