Katrina

It is looking very ugly. At this point, the newspapers are really speculating on the number of people dead. New Orleans is still filling up with water and lootings have started in earnest. A TPM reader from Pensacola, Fl wrote in to say:

"..... To say we have hurricane fatigue here is an understatement. We were hit directly by Ivan in September and Dennis in July. I still have a FEMA blue tarp on my roof from the Dennis damage. ..."

I thought this was exceptionally well done. Here it is.

The other commencement address that I enjoyed as much is the one that Rushdie deliverd to the Bard College graduating class of 1996

The networks prettification project

In case havent seen this, you should check out this Think Progress advertisement on media treatment of the ongoing genocide in Darfur. The DC area network television affiliates are apparently refusing to air the ad.

A different sort of google news

In response to this article on CNET, Google instituted a policy of not talking to CNET until July 2006. I must admit that if I were Eric Schmidt, I would not have liked the uncalled for sensationalism at the beginning of that article either. But Google's reaction reminds me of GM's pulling of ads from LA Times a few months back.

Miss Clinton yet?

I certainly do.

By way of explanation

I wish there was an easy explanation for dropping off the net for such a long time.

Yes, I was swamped at work. I had also been feeling somewhat burnt out. I dont have the personality for online soul searching. But I should have hung a 'Gone fishing' plaque on this page. But then I didnt really know that I was going fishing ....

Thank you for hanging around.
